Carol's Daughter

Hi Community,

I am considering going with a natural style or braids and am full of questions. If there is anyone out there who has made a transition from a short hair style into a natural style or braids? If so, I would love to chat. I am starting a work out routine on a daily basis that is pretty taxing on my hair. I am work in a fast paced role where I travel to see customers alot and have never had a natural hair style. I am curious about how to best approach a natural, how long it takes to transition from permed hair, maintenance techniques during and after my work-outs, etc.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi, I have read your blog and am a natural wearing sista. I transitioned for 18 months which was one of the hardest things I have ever done. I mostly wore a scarf on my head and that was something I was not prepared for, I had so much damaged hair it was ridiculous. I suggest getting kinky or sista twists to start, then do a Big Chop when your ready. If you do a Big Chop when you're not prepared, you're gonna have many bad hair days. Everyone is different you can transition anywhere from 3 to 24 months; its up to you. I really hope you decide to do it because it is s great turning point for anyone who is tired of the scabs, burns and damaged split endz. I'm telling you it is such a relief when you can scratch your scalp, get caught in the raind or even go to the beach. Reply and let me know how you're feeling, good luck. <3 God Bless
